Sanctuary Park has beautiful walking tracks that the community can enjoy. A lot of work has gone into planting in the last 10 years, restoring the 4 hectares of bare farmland into amazing native bush and wetlands. A Green Care Group will now be established to be caretakers of the land and continue the great relationship we have with BOP Regional Council securing funding for future land improvements.
Sanctuary Park Trust desires to have a multi-agency approach with partners in developing the land to help people without homes and education facilities for the community to use. With the Development Plan we dream of the 4 hectares of flat land (currently kiwifruit orchard) being used to give people shelter, training for employment, helping educate and to build a place where people can come alongside each other as they journey through life. We are needing a team that will help research and establish how Sanctuary Park can answer the social needs in Tauranga and plan the development of the land.
There are operational costs that need funding now for promotion of the native green space to the community, employing someone to build partnership relationships and source funding, and also to start the resource consenting process. Multiple trusts are being approached for funding of $111,000 in 2018.
